Welcome
The Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) was established in 1997 under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 as the peak advisory body on directions and priorities in catchment management in the Mallee region. The Mallee CMA also has statutory functions under the Water Act 1989.
The primary responsibility of the Mallee CMA is to ensure that natural resources in the region are managed in an integrated and ecologically sustainable way. This requires the coordination and implementation of Mallee Regional Catchment Strategy in consultation with all community stakeholders.
The activities of the Mallee CMA are guided by goals set for each of the following six major asset classes across the region contained within the Mallee Regional Catchment Strategy:
- Biodiversity
- Community capacity
- Cultural heritage and landscape sites
- Land resources
- Waterways, wetlands and floodplains
- Water resources
