About Us
The Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is responsible for ensuring natural resources in the region are managed in an integrated and ecologically sustainable way. The authority was established under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 and also has statutory functions under the Water Act 1989.
As the peak body for the delivery of natural resource programs in the region, Mallee CMA prepares a regional catchment management strategy, and co-ordinates and monitors its implementation. It advises government, and promotes community awareness and understanding about the importance of land and water resources, their sustainable use, conservation and rehabilitation.
The Mallee CMA’s activities are broken into six major asset classes as identified in the catchment strategy. These are:
1. Biodiversity
2. Community And Program Support
3. Cultural Heritage and Landscape Sites
4. Land Resources
5. Waterways, Wetlands and Floodplains
6. Water Resources
