Community Education
The vision of the Mallee Regional Catchment Strategy has identified that the communities of the Mallee are at the heart of the future management of the region's natural resources.
To achieve the goals of this Strategy we need well-informed communities with the skills and confidence to identify, direct and implement change.
The Mallee has a proud history of the community generating and implementing innovative and complex natural resource management projects and plans. That capacity is still a vital resource for the region, and the Mallee CMA continues to ensure that this resource is harnessed to ensure the successful achievement of the outcomes and targets in the Mallee Regional Catchment Strategy.
Landcare plays an important role in educating people in the dryland areas of the region, with 27 separate groups currently operating. The Mallee Waterwatch program plays a major role in educating and involving the community in a wide range of water related natural resource management issues and activities across the region. It engages more than 4,000 school children and community members each year on water quality, conservation, biodiversity, salinity and recreation issues.
Mallee CMA community education offers:
- Free public events including National Water Week activities and Catch a Carp Day
- School Program support i.e. funding opportunities, school visits and teacher support materials
