Apply Now: Catchment Management Board roles

Expressions of interest are now open for board member and chair positions on Victoria’s 10 Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs).

CMAs and their boards are set up under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994¸ and are accountable to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change and the Minister for Water via the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE).

DSE’s Natural Resources’ Division Executive Director Ingrid Duncan said board membership provided a unique opportunity.

“By being involved in the CMA boards, suitably skilled Victorians have the opportunity to make a difference to the way we manage our important natural resources,” Ms Duncan said.

CMA boards cover areas that involve strategic or business planning, financial management, environment or natural resources management, primary industry, water resources management and the water industry, waterway management or land management.

“These appointments are a chance for enthusiastic, experienced people to help deliver social, economic and environmental outcomes for the community that protect and sustain our environment.”

“CMAs play an integral role in bringing together a range of community organisations and groups to deal with the important issues of environment protection and conservation, local government, primary industry and water resource management."

“I’m looking forward to seeing a diverse range of people apply. I know that there are many Victorians who have the drive and experience to be an essential part of looking after our environmental future.”

“Current board chairs and members are welcome to reapply and I hope community members also submit an expression of interest.”

Applications for appointment are now open and close 5pm on Friday 4 March 2011.
