Trees for Mum at Red Cliffs this year

The annual Trees for Mum event will take place at the Red Cliffs Scenic Reserve this coming Mother’s Day.

This year’s event will celebrate Mother’s Day, while also officially launching the new Red Cliffs and District Community Landcare Group.

“It’s very exciting to be celebrating Mother’s Day with the Trees for Mum event and it will be a great way to launch our new Landcare group,” inaugural group president Tina Grasser said.

Trees for Mum started as a small event in Sydney in 2002.  It has been held in and around Mildura since 2009, with support from the Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA), Parks Victoria, the Mallee Landcare Network and local Friends Of groups.

“By holding this event at the Red Cliffs Scenic Reserve, we will be able to make a real difference to a popular riverside spot,” Tina said.

“This site was chosen as a high priority area by our group and the community and we are really excited about this event.

“Our Landcare Group members will be there to give people a hand to plant trees and we’ll be cooking a sausage sizzle.

“We are also very keen to receive community input about our Landcare group’s future activities.”

Mallee CMA Board Chairperson Sharyon Peart said the Mallee CMA was proud to be involved in the Trees for Mum event.

“This is a wonderful event to celebrate and remember our Mothers, especially for those who no longer have their Mum with them,” she said.

“We are proud to have been involved with this event from the beginning and it’s fantastic to see this event getting bigger and better each year, while still delivering important improvements to our local environment.”

This year’s event is being supported through funding from the Australian Government.

Planting is free of charge and will take place from 9am until 3pm on Sunday, May 11, with free sausages available from 11am. Signs will show the way from the corner of the Calder Highway and Fitzroy Avenue, to the site  on Woomera Avenue, between Pumps Road and Cassia Street.
