Crown Land managers’ consent must be granted before any works/activities in this area are undertaken to ensure the integrity of water frontages is maintained.
Works on or across Crown Land may require a Works Licence from the local water corporation.

permitConstruct a bore

The Mallee regional groundwater aquifer (Parilla Sands) is predominantly saline and is not generally used as a resource.

A small area localised around Murrayville utilises less saline aguifer (Murray Group Limestone) for stock and domestic purposes. These licenses are closely managed within the Water Supply and Protection Area – Murrayville under a comprehensive monitoring program to protect the groundwater resources.

info

Construct groundwater bores less than 3metres deep

NO LICENCE REQUIRED
Groundwater bores less than 3m do not require a permit. These are often drilled as a requirement for new irrigation development to ensure the application of irrigation water does not contribute to rising saline groundwater levels having deleterious affects on vegetation.

permitConstruct groundwater bores more than 3metres deep

LICENCE
Groundwater bores drilled to a depth of greater than 3m below ground surface, or if it intercepts groundwater, require a licence from you local rural water corporation.

Licensing of bores is required to ensure that they are constructed to the required standards to prevent leakage and cross-contamination of underground aquifers.

Monitoring of groundwater levels helps to identify when rising saline groundwaters may affect soil health and its ability to support plant growth.
