Wimmera-Mallee wetlands community information session

Local residents are invited to a community information session to discuss the long term plan for environmental watering of wetlands connected to the Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline.

The information session will be held at the BCG conference room at 6pm on Tuesday 3 March, 2015 and will focus on wetlands within the Mallee Catchment Management (CMA) region.

“Local knowledge and advice is an essential and highly valued component of successfully managing wetlands in our region,” Mallee CMA chairperson Sharyon Peart said.

“We really encourage residents to come along and be involved in the long term management of these wetlands.”

This session follows up on a similar meeting held last year and will help inform the development of an Environmental Watering Management Plan being developed for the wetlands in the Mallee

CMA region.

This five-year plan will describe how environmental water could be used to improve the health of the wetlands connected to the pipeline; set ecological objectives for these wetlands; and describe the flows that would need to be delivered to meet these objectives. When completed, the plan will help water managers priorities where and when environmental water is delivered, in line with environmental cues and seasonal conditions.

“This session will be a great chance to discuss how environmental water can be used to improve the health of these wetlands and work through the various scenarios that will influence when and

where water is delivered in the future,” Ms Peart said.

Dinner will be provided, so please RSVP as soon as possible for catering purposes.
